Social Justice

St Ambrose has a strong focus on social justice, both awareness and action, providing students with the opportunity to contribute to the local and global community through a wide range of events and activities. Visitation to local aged-care centres, participation in community commemorative services and celebrations, involvement in mission days and environmental initiatives, along with our Mini Vinnies group, all ensure our students develop a sense of belonging and responsibility as citizens of the world.

Mini Vinnies

Mini Vinnies is a group of Students who get together to help those in need within our school community. Mini Vinnies introduces children to social justice issues, to the St Vincent de Paul Society, and to living faith through action. The St Ambrose Mini Vinnies Group makes ongoing contributions to numerous initiatives and assists those in our community who are marginalised. Together we continue to network and assist others. Sometimes, it is not only about assisting those living in poverty, it is also about reaching out and making connections with others in our community.

  • Winter Appeal: Each year the school contributes to the Winter Appeal. This provides for those who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, to have access to the support they need to get back on their feet and to be safe and well.

  • Christmas Appeal: Each year St Ambrose aims to support families and individuals who are struggling. Our families come together and embrace the true meaning of Christmas. A time of giving, sharing of love, and thinking about others. Families donate goods and gifts to help provide food, clothing, hampers, and presents to those less fortunate.

Caritas
Caritas Australia is part of a global network that spans over 200 countries and territories. For over 110 years, Caritas has worked towards the creation of a just world. In 1964, Caritas began in Australia. A Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, Caritas is Latin for love + compassion – two qualities that are central to our work.

Project Compassion: Each year St Ambrose supports Project Compassion. This is Caritas Australia’s annual fundraising and awareness-raising appeal, bringing thousands of Australians in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.

Socktober
Socktober cultivates the passion of students to rise up, engage their local community, and take action against poverty. An annual Socktober Day Event is held at St Ambrose as a way for students to learn about key issues of mission and social justice and making a difference for young people in need around the world.
